Celebrating 30 Years of LOVE & Loyalty

As we step into a fresh new year, we are filled with gratitude and excitement as we celebrate an incredible milestone—Dexter’s Deli is officially 30 years old - that’s 210 years in dog years, and what a journey it has been.
Looking back, I’m overwhelmed with appreciation for YOU - our loyal pet parents and extended Dexter’s Deli family, and of course, our extraordinary team. Some of our staff members have been part of this journey for decades, and that kind of loyalty and longevity truly speaks volumes about the heart of Dexter’s Deli.
The dream of Dexter’s Deli began with a dog named Dexter. Many of you remember him—a spirited little Boston Terrier and Staffordshire Terrier mix, who had a way of stealing hearts wherever he went. Dexter was a twice-returned “adoption failure” from the SPCA in St. Louis, Missouri, before finding his forever home with us. He went on to live a long, healthy, and vibrant life until the age of 18, inspiring everything that Dexter’s Deli would become.
It’s wild to think back to when I opened our first store in Del Mar. I was just 29 years old, fueled by a passion to educate pet parents about fresh food diets and better, more natural choices for our dogs and cats. Funny to remember that AOL was our internet connection and we rang up sales on an old-school push-key register.
Today, Dexter’s Deli has grown into so much more than a pet food store. It’s a community—our stores are built on trust, education, connection, and love for our pets. Together, we’ve shared stories, celebrated milestones, supported one another, and worked toward healthier, happier lives for our dogs and cats.
